Meet My Character – A Blog Hop

Many thanks to Heather Hill for passing the baton on this blog hop. You can read her post here.

I am a little superstitious about sharing details of the piece I'm currently working on, but I'm going to do it anyway as I rarely post about my own writing these days.

1. What is the name of the main character? Is he real or fictitious?

My main character is as yet nameless, though I can tell you a little about her. She's sixteen when we're first introduced to her and still at school, though the story spans several years so we watch her as she mature.

2. When and where is the story set?

The story is set in the UK and starts in 2001 in the wake of the American invasion of Afghanistan.

3. What should we know about her?

She is extremely caring, but struggles to keep her emotions in check.

4. What is the main conflict?

The young man she falls in love with joins the army straight out of school, but when he returns from Afghanistan he has changed nearly beyond recognition.

5. What is the character's goal?

Her goal is to try to understand how the man she once loved so deeply has changed. She wants nothing more than for him to share his experiences with her.

I'm hoping to pass the baton to Jacqueline Gabbitas.
